New restaurant/retail units for Loughborough

Work is progressing well on a project to build a new Travelodge hotel at Loughborough Wharf.

The development, being carried out by H2O Urban, a nationwide joint venture company between British Waterways and developer ‘Bloc’, is on schedule and plans are being made to ensure the site becomes a thriving gateway to the town.

The 87 bed hotel, with ground floor commercial space, will complete the redevelopment of Loughborough Wharf which has already seen the development of student accommodation, restaurant units, improved boating facilities and an attractive public plaza area.

Hodgson Elkington and Tushingham Moore chartered surveyors have been appointed to market the three ground floor retail units available within the development. It is anticipated that, once full, the units have the potential to create another 30 jobs on the site in addition to the 30 planned at the Travelodge.

Stephen Bradford from Hodgson Elkington LLP said; “Interest has already been received from occupiers on both a local and national level, the main focus is to bring forward a variety of restaurant users to this exciting new location.”

Richard Thomas from H2O said; “Works are continuing well both on site and behind the scenes to attract appropriate businesses that will really add to Loughborough’s waterside. The three ground floor retail units enjoy an enviable waterside location just a stone’s throw from the town centre so our agents are expecting significant interest. I hope the local community will be able to see Loughborough’s only waterside development really start to take shape over the coming weeks and months.”

Alan Oliver from Travelodge said; “We are looking forward to opening the new Travelodge providing new jobs all of which will be recruited locally. We have been looking to open a hotel in Loughborough where there is a lack of places to stay. Room rates will start from £20 per night and we look forward to being open ahead of the Olympics and when Team GB will be training in the town.”
