Unique 26,000 sq ft sports engineering facility to open at Silverstone Park

White Commercial Chartered Surveyors have recently advised Aerodynamics specialist TotalSim on the acquisition of their new 26,000 sq ft building at Silverstone Park to develop a new state-of-the-art sports engineering facility. Both Olympic & Paralympic athletes are to benefit from this world-class multi-million pound facility.

The Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub will comprise two wind tunnels: one for cycling and other sports such as wheelchair athletics, speed-skating, skeleton and running; the other for testing fabrics. Offices, design studios and workshops for production, prototyping and testing will also be provided within the new building. It is anticipated that the fit out of the building will be completed in the first quarter of 2019 and the site is projected to provide 65 new jobs, ten apprenticeships and support to 45 enterprises.

TotalSim MD Rob Lewis commented: “Tapping into the world class high-tech skills pool around Silverstone enables us to create a unique innovation incubator for companies in sports engineering and services which we predict will have global appeal. This is the start of a whole series of ventures around Silverstone to do with sports science, engineering and education”.

TotalSim have already enjoyed considerable success in sports engineering with Great Britain’s cycling team and other sports with former Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman involved in the project.

Chris White, Managing Director at White Commercial says: “This is an extremely exciting project and were delighted to be asked to advise TotalSim. White Commercial Surveyors continue to be proactively involved in a number of specialist automotive related ventures in this highly sought after area for a number of the big name motorsport businesses.”
