Lidl UK opened the doors of its new store in Clifton, Nottingham, yesterday (Thursday 6th September).

The supermarket, which is located on the Clifton Triangle development at Green Lane, was officially opened by Lilian Greenwood MP, with Robin Hood, the Lord Mayor of Nottingham Councillor Liaqat Ali, a town crier and local councillors also in attendance.

The Clifton Triangle site is being developed by well-known East Midlands-based property developers Cedar House Investments.

Peter Gadsby, Chairman of Cedar House Investments, said: “We are delighted with the progress of the Clifton Triangle scheme and the opening of Lidl is a significant milestone in the development. It will provide local residents with more choice of supermarkets as well as a number of other high-quality retailers.”

The mixed-use scheme will bring 130 jobs and further retail opportunities to Clifton and is benefitting from a £15m investment from Cedar House Investments.

The new 20,000 sq. ft Lidl will join retailer B&M Bargains, which successfully opened its doors on the Clifton development last month.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Jo Hawley, commented: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Clifton. It is great for us to have been able to create more jobs and invest in the area.”

Lilian Greenwood, Labour MP for Nottingham South, said: “Clifton residents often told me they wanted more choice of supermarkets in Clifton. I contacted Lidl and along with local Councillors started a campaign. The response from Clifton residents was fantastic and I’m really pleased that Lidl listened and invested in Clifton. The Clifton Triangle development will have a positive impact on the community, not just through improved retail choices but also with the creation of local jobs and additional housing.

“I know residents have been looking forward to the Lidl store opening but the whole development is great news for Clifton, making it a better place to live, work and visit.”
