A new initiative to combat ill-health among Birmingham’s professional services staff has been opened by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Yvonne Mosquito.

The Lord Mayor performed a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially open BHSF’s private medical practice in the Cornerblock building on Cornwall Street, just around the corner from Snow Hill train station.

The new practice, launched by Birmingham’s leading employee health and wellbeing provider, BHSF, will offer business professionals access to medical services including a GP service.

Aimed at easing the pressure of time-poor employees working in and around the Colmore Row Business District, the new BHSF Medical Practice provides access to convenient and timely medical services during the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm.

The practice has four consultation rooms, staffed by GPs, occupational health physicians, practice nurses and physiotherapists, Monday to Friday. Birmingham-based professionals will benefit from a whole spectrum of offerings, including GP appointments, executive health screenings, flu jabs, physiotherapy and a travel clinic. BHSF Medical Practice will also deliver occupational health services, benefiting local employers in the area.

Brian Hall, Chief Commercial Officer at BHSF, said: “We are delighted to contribute further to the health and wellbeing of fellow professionals. Often busy people put off seeing their GP because it is difficult to juggle their commute with the challenge of seeing their own local and usually hard-pressed, GP. The location of our practice allows them to nip-out of the office and look after their health. Putting off a trip to the GP because you are too busy is never a good idea”.

“Our well-established position in the health and wellbeing market place means we are lucky to have some of the best clinicians in the region working at the practice. We’ve made sure that every element of the practice exceeds expectations, from superb facilities to staff with a wealth of experience, we can ensure the highest quality service in a relaxed and calming environment for anyone that steps through our door. Plus, by positioning our private GP service in a central and convenient location, right next to Snow Hill station, employees no longer need to battle on without making the time to see a GP.”

The Lord Mayor said: “I was thrilled to open BHSF’s new medical practice which will provide those working hard to support growth in this city with the opportunity to prioritise their own health and wellbeing – no matter how busy their working day is. This is a fantastic asset for our City and it is wonderful to see its doors now open for business.”

Birmingham-based BHSF has a history which dates back to 1873. From humble beginnings, the not-for-profit health insurer has grown to a nationwide provider of health and wellbeing services, as well as having 20 occupational health clinics positioned throughout the UK.

With 21 years’ experience in general practice and hospitals, Dawn Mote, Operations Manager at BHSF Medical Practice, says: “The opening of BHSF Medical Practice marks an exciting time for the business as we aim to support employee wellbeing in every sense. We hope that by opening a perfectly situated private medical practice with the very best medical services on offer, that business professionals will be encouraged to give more attention to their health and wellbeing.”
