Salmon Harvester Properties (SHP) held a ground-breaking ceremony at its Cambridge South development this week, officiated by Charles Roberts Deputy Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and other representatives of the public and private sector.

Mr Roberts said: “It is an honour to be here today. The south Cambridge region plays an integral role in Cambridge maintaining its position as a leading city on the world stage for life sciences and other related industries.

“It’s not just about r&d space, we need high quality housing and new industrial accommodation such as this being built to service the demand for modern logistic and other business uses. I congratulate Salmon Harvester for commencing this project on a speculative basis and I am confident it will be a roaring success.”

The first phase of Cambridge South is a 68,000 sq ft speculative industrial/warehousing scheme in Sawston, Cambridgeshire. Marbank Construction Limited has started on site and practical completion is programmed for Q1 2019.

Located within the established commercial district of Dales Manor Business Park, units are available from 1,630 sq ft to 46,959 sq ft. Neighbouring tenants include Morgan Sindall, Vindis, Unisurge and Cambridge University Hospitals.

SHP is funding the 13-unit development from its own financial resources and intends to sell when built, with a gross development value in excess of £12 million.

The Phase 2 land of just over 3 acres remains available and Salmon Harvester looks forward to further industrial development of 70,000 sq ft for occupiers on a design and build basis.

Salmon Harvester Chief Executive Doug Stewart said, “With Cambridge continuing as one of the leading cities in the UK, but with very few industrial and logistics developments in recent years, we are delighted to be delivering newly built space into a hungry occupational market. We were delighted to welcome the Deputy Mayor to break ground for us and to showcase the scheme to other special guests.”

Savills and Carter Jonas are advising SHP on lettings.
