Wakemans supports Travelodge’s Midlands expansion

National property and construction consultancy Wakemans is helping the UK’s first budget hotel chain, Travelodge, to build its presence across the West Midlands and is on-site building a new hotel in Solihull.

Wakemans is acting as tenant’s agent on Solihull Sapphire Court Travelodge, which is Travelodge’s 23rd hotel in the West Midlands and offers 82 rooms, a Bar Café and on-site car-parking. It represents an investment of £10million for third party investors and will create 25 new jobs within the community.

The hotel will be styled in Travelodge’s new contemporary brand design, which has been created by customers and offers Travelodge’s latest room concept SuperRooms – the UK’s first budget premium economy room which ramps up the comfort factor for travellers who want the extra choice of a more premium room.

Solihull Sapphire Court Travelodge will be the company’s second hotel in the West Midlands to offer SuperRooms, the other hotel is Birmingham Bull Ring Travelodge.

Wakemans Associate Director Nigel Himpson said: “The West Midlands is a major focus for Travelodge and we’re delighted to be supporting its exciting new-build and redevelopment programme in the region.”

Solihull appears regularly in polls of the best places to live in the UK and with two shopping centres – Touchwood and the more traditional Mell Square – it is widely acknowledged as a vibrant retail destination.

In keeping with Travelodge’s strategic development plan, the new Solihull hotel is a short walk from retail and leisure facilities. Its convenient location, adjacent to the town’s railway station and a mile from the M42 – which puts it at the heart of the Midlands motorway network and within easy reach of Birmingham Airport – means the Travelodge also benefits from excellent transport links.

Tony O’Brien, Travelodge, UK Development Director said: “The West Midlands is a key growth area for Travelodge and we are delighted to be opening our 23rd hotel in the region in Solihull.

“The local economy is growing at pace and with increasing visitor numbers to the area there is a big shortage of good quality and great value accommodation. Therefore our new hotel with SuperRooms is ideally placed to fulfil this growing customer demand.”

The Solihull Sapphire Court Travelodge is the third Midlands Travelodge project with which Wakemans has been involved in recent months. In Dudley, Wakemans acted as tenant’s agent on a new-build 78-bedroom hotel with Bar Café. Situated on the site of the former Royal Brierley Crystal factory, close to the iconic Dudley Zoo and Black Country Living Museum, the £6million Dudley Town Centre Travelodge opened for business last September.

Wakemans also worked on the 78-room West Bromwich Travelodge, the hotel chain’s first in the town, which opened in May 2017. Featuring Travelodge’s upgraded rooms and Bar Café, the hotel is minutes away from the town centre’s amenities, including New Square Shopping Centre, bars, restaurants and a five-screen cinema. It is also close to The Hawthorns, home of West Bromwich Albion FC.
