Site of former Rheola aluminium works to go under the hammer

The site of the former Rheola aluminium works in Neath Port Talbot is up for sale.

The now cleared former British Aluminium Company factory site, which employed some 590 workers when it closed 1981, was most recently used as the site for a market and car boot sale.

Now the thirty plus acre site at Glynneath Road, Resolven, Neath, is being offered for sale by Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide price of £300,000-£350,000.

Matthew Jordan who is handling the sale for Paul Fosh Auctions said: “This really is a prime site for redevelopment. The property forms part of what was the former Rheola Aluminium Works. It comprises of a level parcel of land extending to about 30.5 acres. All the former industrial buildings on the site have been demolished leaving the concrete base in situ.”

The Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council local development plan allocates the site for a tourism led regeneration scheme.

Planning permission was granted for a mixed use leisure led scheme in December 2011 for part of the site to include the construction of 46 residential units, together with a holiday park and leisure facility.

The site is a mile north east of Resolven with access to the A465. The semi rural area lies adjacent to Neath Canal. Access to Junction 43 of the M4 is nine miles to the south west of the site.

The next Paul Fosh Auctions sale, when the site will be offered for sale alongside some 70 other properties, is on tomorrow, Thursday, February 8, at The Park Inn Hotel, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff starting at 5pm.
