Commercial law firm Carbon Law Partners has expanded into new premises in Cardiff city centre’s Creative Quarter.

In 2015, Carbon chose Cardiff as the headquarters for its growing business. Initially based in Westgate House, Carbon has now moved into its new home in The Creative Quarter, where it has agreed a five year lease.

Announced as The No 1 Legal Disruptor (2017) by the Times publication Raconteur, Carbon’s innovative business model provides a better way for lawyers to provide legal services to their clients. The model has been well received by lawyers, with nine new Partners joining the firm across its locations in Cardiff, Bristol and London in September alone.

Property consultant Knight Frank advised the company in its search for new offices. Carbon’s founder and chief executive Michael Burne said: “The Creative Quarter is the perfect home for the Carbon Hub. We love the refurbishment of the building – the mix of the raw, traditional and historic with the contemporary. It reflects the Carbon brand – Beyond Tradition – taking the best of the old and adding the best of the new. We love being in a space where we are surrounded by like-minded people.”

The Creative Quarter provides individual studios created in the old Morgan Arcade Chambers and the upper floors of the David Morgan Department store. Already home to a rapidly growing community of businesses, a recent string of new lettings has added to existing high-profile tenants including Bad Wolf Productions, The Urbanists and HLM Architects.

Tenants have access to shared meeting spaces and The Hub – a communal social space which provides kitchen facilities and a focal point for informal meetings, presentations and get-togethers.

Michael Burne added: “We have worked closely with Knight Frank throughout this process to find the right home for our Cardiff headquarters – their expertise, understanding of our business, along with their grasp of the type of space we wanted, were essential in delivering our great new office space.”

Mark Sutton, partner at Knight Frank, said: “Carbon Law Partners’ modern approach in a traditional sector is reflected in their property requirements and it meant that we needed to explore non-corporate options for their new office. Creative Quarter combines the contemporary finishes and modern facilities with period features retaining the character of the arcades – a perfect match for occupiers like Carbon Law Partners.”
