Cambridge market town fits the bill for Oxford biotech business

Sense Biodection Ltd (Sense) is the newest tenant at 10a Harding Way, St Ives from where it will run its Cambridge development office.  This new occupier sees the space fully let, confirms agent Barker Storey Matthews who acted on behalf of Asphaltic Developments in negotiating this final letting.

Established at the Culham Science Centre in Oxford in 2014, Sense is developing user-centred clinical diagnostic test devices in the fields of infection and oncology.

In occupying a 1,990 sq ft first floor office suite at 10a Harding Way, St Ives, Sense shares an address with leading Cambridge company 42 Technology and can take advantage of direct public transport access to Cambridge via the Guided Bus and improving road access via the A14.

Ralph Lamble, Chief Development Officer, Sense Biodetection Ltd comments, “The opening of our Cambridge development office will complement our Oxford head office and research laboratory by expanding the company’s internal capabilities as it moves into product development and manufacturing.

“We’re looking forward to engaging with Cambridge companies in the sector to enhance our internal development team and accelerate our progress to market.”

Stephen Power, Director, Barker Storey Matthews Huntingdon, believes that the Cambridgeshire market towns offer R&D-focused companies the commercial pedigree of a Cambridge location without the premium price tag of city centre premises.

He says, “It’s a positive property move for Sense as an R&D occupier.

“It demonstrates the advantages of close proximity to Cambridge with significant occupier cost savings against the more typical science and technology park occupier rates in, or to the south of, the city itself.”
