TK Maxx to open in Huntingdon

Manormaker (a joint venture between The Churchmanor Estates Company plc and BP Pension scheme), advised by MMX Retail, has announced TK Maxx as a new tenant for the extension to the Chequers Shopping Centre in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

The international off-price retailer has signed a 15-year lease for a 20,000 sq ft unit at the centre, which is currently undergoing a significant extension adjacent to the existing retail offer. This is due to complete in late Summer 2017, with Next and M&S Food Hall returning to the town centre for the first time in five years.

Other existing occupiers include Superdrug, Vision Express, Sports Direct and Clarks.

Stephen Clark, Director at Manormaker, said: “Chequers Shopping Centre is the main shopping destination in the local area and the extension will see nine additional retailers opening. The signing of TK Maxx, which follows the announcement of Next and M&S Food Hall opening as anchor stores, demonstrates confidence in both Huntingdon and the shopping centre. We look forward to welcoming TK Maxx, but also providing the town and local residents with a more varied retail offer.”

Howard Quigley, Partner at MMX Retail, added: “Huntingdon is a rapidly expanding town in Cambridgeshire and the extension to Chequers Shopping Centre will not only cater to the growing population, it will also further enhance the town centre’s retail dominance. With Next, M&S Food Hall, Caffe Nero, and now TK Maxx all signed, Huntingdon is rightly perceived as a strong trading location.”

Huntingdon is a rapidly expanding Cambridgeshire town benefitting from great transport links. It sits on the intersection of the A14 and the A1 with direct access to the A10, M11 and M1, and is also a one hour train to London Kings Cross. The area will see major growth in coming years, with over 12,000 homes in the pipeline. The total catchment is over 180,000 residents and the town should see a significant rise in its position within the retail hierarchy of the region.

MMX Retail is the retained agent on Manormaker’s Chequers Shopping Centre.
