Global med tech firm moves to Winnersh Triangle

PATRIZIA UK, manager of Winnersh Triangle, has welcomed global medical technology name BD to its award-winning development at its business park near Reading.

BD has relocated its UK operations into 44,000 sq ft of premium office space, taking the first three floors of PATRIZIA’s major speculative development at 1030 Eskdale Road, Winnersh Triangle.

The deal scooped the regional accolade ‘Property Deal of the Year’ in the Thames Valley Property Awards 2017, with Winnersh Triangle having previously been named ‘Business Park of the Year’ in the 2016 awards.

BD’s move to Winnersh Triangle is part of a plan to consolidate and develop its UK businesses. BD’s new offices are home for all its commercial operations in the UK, as well as support functions, technical services and an Innovation Centre to host customers.

The high-growth company, headquartered in New Jersey, US, announced its move with a recruitment drive to attract new talent to join its 260-strong office.

Mike Fairbourn, UK General Manager for BD, said: “We are delighted with our new home at Winnersh Triangle which brings together all our commercial and functional teams under one roof to enable greater collaboration and focus on our customers.

“Our move to the business park is a key part of our growth strategy for the future, providing us with an exciting opportunity to bring new talent into the company from the local Reading and wider Thames Valley catchment area, alongside our existing people from our previous Oxford and Basingstoke locations. It also enhances our ability to network with many other well-known global businesses as well as the burgeoning local science and technology community.”

Welcoming BD to Winnersh Triangle, PATRIZIA UK’s Rupert Batho, Director, Asset Management, commented: “BD is the latest global name to join the thriving Winnersh Triangle business community. The park provides international companies such as BD with an optimal base for their continued growth and success. Positioned at the heart of a growing economic, technology and innovation hub, our strategic location also provides fast connectivity to and from London, Heathrow and the wider south England transport network.”

Strutt and Parker and Vail Williams represented PATRIZIA to secure the ten-year lease, and JLL acted for BD – with the three agents under joint instruction on the Winnersh Triangle estate. The deal leaves third-floor availability at 1030 Eskdale Road, comprising 16,000 sq ft of prime office space.

Winnersh Triangle provides office, technology, data centre, R&D and amenity space over a total of 1.5 million square feet.

A large, four-floor development comprising a total of 61,780 sq ft, 1030 is prominently located at the Western end of the business park. Construction works reached practical completion earlier this year.

Easily accessible by road just off junction 10 of the M4, Winnersh Triangle also benefits from its own train station within walking distance. On-site amenities include a four-star hotel with restaurant, café, conference facilities and a range of leisure facilities, plus a retail store, and nursery.

Winnersh Triangle was acquired in July 2013 with funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management LP and real estate investor PATRIZIA UK Ltd.
