Taking another punt on Lincoln’s economy

Major betting company Betfred is backing the drive to boost Lincoln’s economy with an expansion move.

Lincoln commercial agent Banks Long & Co today revealed that it has let premises on the bustling uphill Carlton Centre to the country’s largest independent bookmaker.

Surveyor Matthew Brooks said: “Betfred was attracted by this strong retail destination, which is owned by Lincolnshire Co-operative, and the company has taken a unit in Alexander Walk.

“The Carlton Centre is popular with other national retailers, including Lincolnshire Coop, Argos, Boots, Pets at Home, McDonalds and Halfords, amongst many others.

“Betfred is now working to fit out its new premises and plans to open in time to catch this summer’s trade.”

The bookmaker, which has a turnover of more than £3.5 billion, has 1,350 outlets around  the country, including branches in Lincoln High Street, at The  Forum, North Hykeham and elsewhere in Lincolnshire.

Betfred follows Argos, which opened late last year, onto the Carlton Centre, which has planning permission for a further 35,000 sq ft of retail accommodation.
