A security business is the final firm to move into the former Co-op building in Ilkeston meaning all the retail units are now occupied.

D&D Security (Midlands) Ltd will move in to the premises, owned by ALB Commercial Investments Ltd, this month.

The company, which carries out static guarding, key holding and door supervision, has been in business for more than ten years and holds long standing contracts with blue chip companies, securing their premises all over the East Midlands.

Managing director, Darran Davis, has worked in the security industry for more than 25 years. He said: “After years of being located in Bulwell the opportunity of moving to nice new offices in Ilkeston was too strong to resist. It has been kitted out to a high specification, is centrally located, easy to find and will enable us to grow our business further.”

Four of the firm’s 32 staff will be based at the Ilkeston office.

The other business based at the former Co-op are EnergySave, Eighty Eight, Coffee Vida, Maggie Throup’s office, Snap Fitness, NewLynn Construction, the Discount Party Store, Thorpes and a general store.

The rest of the building will be converted into apartments after planning permission was granted in March.

Arran Bailey, director of ALB Commercial Investments Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have D&D Security on board as we are using them to secure the building as well as being a tenant. After knowing Darran for more than 20 years and being good friends it made sense to have him and his company on board.”
