Pochin’s secures green light for Aldi proposal in Widnes

Pochin’s Ltd, the North West construction and property specialist, has received planning approval from Halton Borough Council with a view to building a new 19,500 sq ft foodstore for leading discount supermarket chain, Aldi.

The project, put forward by Pochin’s in partnership with Malahat Properties Ltd, How Planning and Hulme Upright Architects, relates to a vacant 143,000 sq ft site adjacent to Derby Road in Farnworth, Widnes. Remediation work on the land, which was previously home to a manufacturing plant, has already taken place as part of a wider masterplan for new housing in the area, alongside supporting amenities.

The one-storey superstore will be supported by 159 parking spaces as well as a newly refurbished access road.

Bob Nicholson, property director at Pochin’s, commented: “Whilst we have a diverse portfolio of ongoing development opportunities across the North West, every Pochin’s site is linked by a desire to deliver projects that give people a place to live, work and play, contributing to prosperity in the region. The overall masterplan for the wider site represents that vision and we’ll be proud to support it with the creation of this new foodstore.”

Work on the site is set to begin in the summer and will also include landscaping and associated infrastructure, including the refurbishment of the existing access road.

Aldi spokesperson concluded: “As well as having a positive impact on the local economy, this new store will also deliver a high quality retail facility in line with the regeneration needs plans for the area.”
