Browne Jacobson adds two to growing Manchester office

Browne Jacobson has continued its Manchester expansion with the appointment of solicitors Lois Murphy and Michael Parkinson.

Lois joins the firm’s health team from Hempsons Solicitors in Manchester where she worked in the healthcare advisory & healthcare litigation team. Lois handled clinical negligence claims for the NHS Litigation Authority, appeared on behalf of NHS trust clients at inquests and assisted with advisory issues such as withdrawal of treatment and applications to the Court of Protection in respect of deprivation of liberty.

Lois will support the growth of the firm’s national healthcare law practice which is already considered one of the leading in the country by independent experts Chambers UK and regarded as a “regional heavyweight” by independent directory Legal 500.

The team is a trusted adviser to over 50 established foundation trusts, acute trusts and hospital groups, mental health and well-being trusts, ambulance trusts, commissioning organisations, health regulators, clinical litigation organisations, private sector providers, independent healthcare groups and healthcare social enterprises.

Also joining Lois is newly qualified property lawyer Michael Parkinson who joins from Bolton law firm Winder Taylor Smith. Michael’s specialism lies in residential and commercial property transactions including sale and purchase transactions, help to buy, right to buy, repossession, exchanges and completions and conveyancing.

Michael joins a 50 strong national property practice which has extensive experience in complex transactional work and delivering major projects across the country, including ground breaking regeneration projects and major mixed use schemes.

Dai Durbridge, partner in the firm’s Manchester office commented:

“Lois and Michael will be a great addition to our growing Manchester team, allowing us to further support our clients in the North West region.

“We are fully committed to recruiting from the local pool of legal talent and investing in their future to ensure they have a fulfilling and rewarding career with us. Our Manchester office offers a new agile and flexible working environment which will give our employees and new appointments greater flexibility in the way they choose to work.”

Over the last five years, the Manchester office has seen significant headcount growth since its opening in February 2012 and posted impressive financial results with 25 per cent growth for 2015/16.

Towards the end of 2017 the firm will move its Manchester office to No.1 Spinningfields, quadrupling its existing office accommodation.

The move follows a period of sustained growth for the firm and coincides with its plans to expand its service offering in the North West, grow its headcount and continue to deliver exceptional client service to its growing public and private sector client base.

This latest appointment takes the number of fee earners across Browne Jacobson’s five office network to 500.
