Sheffield based contractor JF Finnegan has been appointed by Tuffnells Parcels Express Limited to build a new £3.3M facility comprising warehouse and office accommodation at Zone 6 of the acclaimed Sheffield Business Park.  Work has now commenced on the site and is scheduled for completion in August 2017.

Sheffield Business Park is one of Yorkshire’s largest business parks with over 200 acres of which circa 600,000 sq ft is already built and occupied by high profile occupiers such as Fujitsu Siemens, HSBC, South Yorkshire Police and Stanley UK with in excess of 900,000 sqft of future development proposed.

Zone 6 is a 6 acre plot to the western end of the Park, just 2 minutes from J34 of the M1 and is already home to NHS Ambulance Fleet Management Service, VW Gilders Van Centre and DBL Logistics.  The joint venture team of JF Finnegan and Sheffield Business Park, Broomco Limited, sold the land at Zone 6 within Sheffield Business Park in separate land sales to Tuffnells Parcels Express and JCT 600 in 2015.

Tuffnells Parcels Express, whose HQ is in close proximity to the site, bought 3.55 acres to develop the new depot and JCT 600 purchased a 0.10 acre plot to expand its existing operations at Zone 6 where its VW Gilders Van Centre is in operation.

JF Finnegan’s instruction by Tuffnells Parcels Express will include the design and construction of the new 19,900 sq ft depot and follows on from their long-standing involvement in the Park, having already constructed around 80 per cent of the new buildings on Sheffield Business Park.

Dawa Singh, Head of Pre-Construction at JF Finnegan, said;

“Having originally sold the land to Tuffnells, we are pleased to be working with the specialists in next day business to business UK delivery on the new warehouse after a long value engineering process.  We are returning to Sheffield Business Park, after working as developer contractors over the years. The new facility will be an excellent addition to this immensely successful business park.”

Chris Ward, Managing Director of Tuffnells, said of the investment;

“At Tuffnells Parcels Express we are investing heavily in our health and safety, training and services, but as this move shows, also in our people. Many Tuffnell’s employees in the Sheffield depot have been with us for decades and this state of the art new working environment is a great way to boost motivation and show our appreciation for years of hard work.  As well as a new modern look, the increased space for vehicles means we can not only improve customer service levels, but  also open up new local job opportunities.  We believe this will be a brilliant facility and we are more than happy to be working with the experts in the area – JF Finnegans.”

Bond Bryan Architects is appointed project Architect.
