Senior appointment in Aberdeen as Grant Thornton targets further growth in the North East

Barry Fraser

Grant Thornton has made another key appointment in Aberdeen as it continues its investment in the north east of Scotland.

The business and financial adviser has hired Barry Fraser to lead the further development of its Aberdeen office, together with Advisory Director Ian Knott who joined from Simmons last year.  The office opened in October 2016.

Barry has more than two decades of experience, most recently as Executive Director at EY, leading the firm’s Transaction team in Aberdeen, covering corporate finance, transaction support and restructuring.

Commenting on his appointment, Barry said:

“I was attracted to Grant Thornton because of its excellent reputation as a leading advisor to the mid-market, both in the UK and internationally. Current market conditions in Aberdeen continue to be challenging but there are signs of improvement that create real opportunities for growth and I very much look forward to establishing a successful offering here in the north east.”

Rob Caven, Partner and Head of Advisory at Grant Thornton in Scotland, commented:

“Barry brings a wealth of transaction experience, including considerable knowledge of the oil and gas services market. We are committed to expanding our Aberdeen team and we are delighted that someone of Barry’s stature has agreed to be a part of this journey”.

“Aberdeen faces a number of challenges in the year ahead as we prepare for Brexit and increasing global political and economic uncertainty. However, we’re working hard to ensure that our business is more resilient than ever before and remains focused on sustainable growth. Barry’s appointment reinforces that commitment and I’m confident that we’re creating a knowledgeable, highly experienced team that can play a key role in helping to deliver long term sustainable growth.”
