Property management and surveying firm Scanlans has appointed partner Ian Stanistreet as chairman to succeed long-serving David McKee, who is retiring after 33 years at the practice.

Manchester-based Ian, 56, joined the national practice as a partner in 1989. He will remain as head of the firm’s property management division in addition to being chairman.

David, 62, joined Scanlans as a chartered surveyor in 1983, became a partner in 1985 and managing partner in 2008.

Under a restructuring in April 2016, each partner took on responsibility for certain management functions, such as finance, business development and human resources, according to their areas of expertise. The role of managing partner was replaced with that of chairman.

As part of a planned transition, David will retire at the end of March.

Scanlans operates a property management division which specialises in residential block management across the north west and the Midlands. Its portfolio includes Manchester developments Granby Village, Edge Street and Smithfield Buildings.

The firm also has a surveying consultancy with a focus on commercial and residential property, in addition to building surveying and LPA receiverships.

It has eight partners and 70 staff across its offices in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, London and Cardiff.

Ian said: “I’m honoured to succeed David as chairman and I look forward to continuing to work closely with the other partners to take the firm into an exciting future, with various ventures and new areas of work in the pipeline.

“We have an excellent team of partners and staff who have all contributed towards our success over the years.

“David helped to steer the practice through the most severe recession in living memory. Since then, Scanlans has continued to grow in both property management and consultancy under his leadership.”

David said: “Ian has a good vision and is the ideal person to co-ordinate the future progress and direction of the business, with the full support of our partners and staff.

“I am sure Scanlans will see continued growth and success over the coming years with our excellent partnership team in place.”
