Cardiff law firm wins coveted award

Hugh James has been announced as the winner for The Legal 500 UK Firm of the Year for Wales.

The Cardiff-based firm beat off competition from four other Welsh law firms to win the award.

Now in its 29th year, The Legal 500 Series is widely acknowledged as the world’s largest legal referral guide. More than 280,000 corporate counsel are surveyed and interviewed globally each year.

The winners are decided after months of thorough research, where 70,000 interviews are conducted with in-house counsel, law firms and sets in the UK to pin-point the most capable, expert practitioners and firms.

The award win comes hot on the heels of two significant developments at the firm. Earlier this month, Hugh James joined forces with Cardiff-based commercial law firm, MLM Cartwright, to become the largest corporate, commercial and property legal team in Wales.

In September, Hugh James acquired boutique commercial property law firm in London, Claremont Richards, to grow its presence in the capital.

This year has also seen Hugh James make a number of strategic senior appointments, including 20 promotions taking its total employee number to 690.

Alun Jones, managing partner at Hugh James, said: “This award is a great way to mark a milestone year for us, which has involved two law firms joining forces with Hugh James, major pieces of work for our clients, new client wins, strategic appointments and a recent rebrand.

“We were up against some tough competition so to win is a huge achievement for us. We have very talented teams at the firm working across a range of specialisms, all of whom have been recognised as leaders in their respective fields by the Legal 500 directory.

“This award is testament to the talent, hard work and commitment of our staff and we hope to continue our success next year.”

A dinner for winners will now be held on the 23rd February at The East & West Crypts in London.
