Shulmans builds on its real estate success

Leading corporate law firm, Shulmans LLP, is celebrating the success of its Real Estate team following a bumper year of new deals and award wins.

In the last month, the Wellington Place-based firm has been named Property Law Firm of the Year at the Yorkshire Property Insider Awards and won the Commercial Property category at the Yorkshire Legal Awards, reaffirming Shulmans’ position as a leading name in real estate, both in Leeds and the wider region.

Handling more than £4.5 billion of property transactions in the past year, the Real Estate team has been involved in numerous landmark projects across the Yorkshire region, including the Gregory Property Group’s development at Regent Street, scheduled to open later this year.  Shulmans dealt with all of the legal aspects of this transaction; from site assembly, pre-letting and construction, right through to the forward investment sale involving a very complex planning approval process. The site will boast an Aldi, Pure Gym and Poundworld, breathing new life into a formerly neglected area of the city centre.

The team has also been instrumental in the amalgamation of operating sites for display specialists, PPB Ltd in recent months, securing the firm new, larger premises at Cross Green, Leeds as well as supporting the flagship 4Urban leisure development in Harrogate and the sale of the Bingley shopping centre.  Shulmans was also involved in the redevelopment of The Chocolate Works in York on behalf of Barratt Homes/David Wilson Homes.  This involved the turning the iconic former Terry’s factory site into a £70 million luxury scheme of circa 270 residential dwellings over the last three years.

John Foster, partner in the Real Estate team, said: “It has been a particularly successful year for the department with a number of high profile deals. The award wins are testament to the expertise of the team and recognise the complete service we offer, from planning and purchase, through to development, construction and sale.”

Simon Jackson, Head of Commercial Property, added: “We are well-connected in the property world, and people trust us to use an innovative approach to get them the results that they need. It is good to have the achievements of our team acknowledged by both the property industry and our peers. We aim to replicate these successes in the year ahead and further expand on our already strong reputation.”
