Engineering and environmental consultancy Grontmij has seen two of its high profile projects shortlisted for prestigious international awards by BREEAM, the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings.

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) has recognised Grontmij’s work on the 107 metre high South Bank Tower, London, and Camden Council’s new 13-storey community building, Five Pancras Square, which is adjacent to King’s Cross station.

The projects have been shortlisted for international BREEAM awards in the residential and mixed use and other buildings categories respectively. South Bank Tower has a BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’ whilst Five Pancras Square’s is ‘outstanding’.

Grontmij was acquired last October by Sweco, Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy, which has its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. The company has 14,500 employees, sales of approximately SEK 16 billion (£1.3 billion) and is listed on NASDAQ Stockholm.

Now in its 26th year, BREEAM’s sustainability assessment method is applied in over 70 countries. More than two million buildings have been assessed using the standard with ratings calculated against a wide variety of criteria by independent BREEAM assessors.

Grontmij will discover if it has won the awards at a ceremony being held on March 8 at the London Marriott attended by hundreds of industry professionals.

Commenting on the shortlistings, Jeff Davitt, interim managing director, Grontmij UK, said: “The shortlists for the BREEAM Awards 2016 represent some of the most outstanding examples of sustainable buildings in the world.

‘We are very proud that two of our projects have been recognised amongst this elite group. It is testimony to our clients’ commitment to sustainability and Grontmij’s ability to apply innovative design principles that deliver better buildings.”

Grontmij has world-class expertise in the fields of energy, highways & roads, light rail, sustainable buildings and water. The company has offices in Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Maidenhead, Manchester, Newcastle, Peterborough and Solihull.
