Work begins on Bruntwood’s redevelopment of Two Cornwall Street

Work has started on the £14 million transformation of Two Cornwall Street, which is on course to provide top quality office space to the heart of Birmingham’s Colmore Business District in 2016.

In its most ambitious project to date, family-owned property company Bruntwood is completely revamping the nine-storey building, situated on the corner of Cornwall Street and Livery Street.

The new building will offer around 110,000 sq ft of Grade A office space to businesses looking to take office space next year, when high demand from occupiers is expected to coincide with a lack of available high-end offices.

Bruntwood is increasing the internal area of Two Cornwall Street by around 21,000 sq ft and adding a double-height reception area.

Floor to ceiling glazing will mean the interior will be filled with natural light and provide views across Birmingham. Outside, there will be a spacious 3,500 sq ft rooftop terrace available for occupiers of the building and their visitors.

While the redevelopment is underway, potential occupiers have the rare opportunity to shape their workspace at build stage, meaning they are able to create a bespoke environment that is completely tailored to their business needs.

Bruntwood owns and manages more than 140 properties in four UK cities – including the revamped Centre City on Hill Street, Mclaren on Queensway, and the Grade II-listed Cornwall Buildings on Newhall Street in Birmingham – but the redevelopment of Two Cornwall Street is the largest, most significant project in its 39-year history.

Rob Valentine, head of Bruntwood’s Birmingham office, said, “The start on-site at Two Cornwall Street is a huge moment for Bruntwood. Not only does it represent a major leap in the scale of its work in Birmingham, it also marks a new phase in terms of size and scope of the projects the company takes on across the UK.

“We are very happy to be on track to deliver the Two Cornwall Street at a crucial time for Birmingham.  The city is viewed as a place where entrepreneurial businesses thrive, and there is expected to be a surge in demand for high quality space in 2016.

“With floor plates of up to 13,750 sq ft and a perfect location at the heart of the Colmore Business District – close to Birmingham’s transport hubs, shops, restaurants and café – we’re set to deliver some of the best situated, Grade A offices, right when they are needed most.

“We look forward to working with potential occupiers during the redevelopment of Two Cornwall Street in order provide them with a working environment perfectly suited to their business needs and objectives.”
