DU Construction building success with Welsh Government support

Investment in a bespoke strategically located operational centre and headquarters on Anglesey Enterprise Zone is paying dividends for DU Construction Ltd which is winning new business and creating jobs.

The £470,000 investment by DU Construction was supported by £210,000 from the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund and enabled the company to expand and relocate its offices from Gaerwen to Penrhos Business Park in Holyhead.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart, who officially opened the company’s new premises, heard that DU Construction had recently secured a £2m contract from Ynys Môn County Council to refurbish forty nine local authority homes as well as a contract to construct five new bungalows at Holyhead for housing association Grŵp Cynefin. The company has also recently completed a £1 million pound refurbishment of Bangor swimming pool for Gwynedd Council

DU Construction, which is set to create twenty new jobs as a result of the expansion, has already created thirteen new jobs including five new apprentices.

The Minister said: “I am delighted this investment in new facilities is already making an impact and creating direct and indirect benefits for the local economy.

“Construction is one of our key sectors and the number of major projects planned for Anglesey present exciting growth opportunities for companies in this sector. I am pleased Welsh Government funding has helped DU Construction to expand and is now well positioned to maximise these opportunities.”

Director Mark Blackwell said:” The expansion has helped move the business up to the next level and support from the Welsh Government has been invaluable. Without this assistance we would have had difficulty expanding and growing the business. It has helped secure the future of our workforce and enabled us to create new jobs with the potential for further growth in the future.

“Our new centre is strategically located to take advantage of the growing number of opportunities in this region of Anglesey and our investment is paying off. Since moving to Holyhead we have secured a £2million housing refurbishment contract which is our largest to date.”

The expansion includes new offices, a joinery workshop, storage facilities and investment in ICT systems and new construction plant and equipment

DU Construction Ltd works across the construction sector for the public and private sectors including new build, heritage, renovation and property maintenance work as well as demolition. It has worked with Horizon Nuclear Power for the past four years and is a Horizon framework partner for on-going site works.
