Professional Services firm to expand into Derby

Entrepreneurial professional services firm Knights is set to continue its expansion by opening a Derby office in August.

Knights made headlines in 2012 when it became the UK’s first commercial law firm to attract private equity investment. The firm has since taken major steps towards becoming one of the UK’s top 100 law firms.

Under the leadership of CEO David Beech, turnover has doubled to £20m with the number of professionals rising from 80 to more than 200 across its three offices in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Chester and Cheltenham. It plans to build a 30-strong professional team in Derby over the next 12 months.

David said: “Derby fits well with our focus on communities where the businesses and individuals value local expertise and quality instead of having to turn to the larger cities of Birmingham or London, for example.

“We are looking forward to joining the thriving business community in Derby and offering exciting career opportunities for the region’s talented lawyers and other professionals.”

Knights is changing the way that professional services are delivered.  Unlike the traditional partnership model of other firms its corporate structure distinguishes between ownership, management and lawyering meaning a dedicated management team is responsible for running the business whilst the partners are freed up to concentrate on their clients’ needs.

David said: “In this rapidly changing legal market, we are focussed on delivering a high quality customer experience. Our modern outlook, significant investment in cutting edge technology and experienced professionals mean we can offer a fresh approach to professional services for clients in Derby.

“We are investing heavily in recruitment, technology, and modern working methods that improve the quality, speed and efficiency of how we handle work. This ultimately improves the service our clients receive.”

As well as support with legal issues, Knights’ ABS status enables it to provide ‘non-law’ services such as town planning, corporate finance, management consultancy and specialist tax advice.

David added: “We are always keen to hear from individuals or teams of talented professionals that may be interested in joining our unique culture.”

Knights’ Derby office will be located on Pride Park and is set to open in August 2015.
