Careers event set to inspire the next Andrew Carnegie

Businesses from across Fife and Edinburgh are set to pull together today (Friday May 15) to introduce Kirkcaldy pupils at to the world of work and entrepreneurship.

More than 50 volunteers, including parents and members of the business community, will pay a special visit to Kirkcaldy West Primary Schoolto help deliver an ‘Inspire to Aspire’ day, which will include a Building a Brand workshop, Paper Aeroplane Challenge, Enterprise Game and 60-Second Pitch, as well as a Careers Fair with a number of exhibitors, such as Fife Council, Police Scotland, easyJet, Vision Express, and Lynda Hamilton Communications.

The event will culminate in a Dragons’ Den-style entrepreneurial competition to be judged by Eric Byiers, CEO of Fife Chamber of Commerce; David Torrance MSP; Elaine Davies of Santander, and Lynda Hamilton, director of Lynda Hamilton Communications.

Other businesses set to take part include Fife Schoolwear, The Present Shop and Apollo Blinds, alongside representatives from the likes of RBS, RICS Scotland, and the Scottish Parliament.

The event has been organised by Mark Sorsa Leslie, chairperson of the Parent Voice at Kirkcaldy West Primary School and a parent of one of its pupils.

He said: “We want to encourage the children to think about different life paths and careers while having some fun and, with the amazing support from the business community, I’m sure we will inspire the next Andrew Carnegie or Coco Chanel.”

The day-long event will conclude with an awards ceremony and Inspire to Aspire presentation.
