JLL attracts bright young talent

There are three new faces in JLL’s Nottingham office as the global real estate advisor steps up activity after a stellar year for investment in the East Midlands and increasing reputation for being a top class company for graduates to excel in.

This comes on the back of JLL being named a 2015 World’s Most Ethical Company for the 8th year by the Ethisphere Institute – the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practice.

Ravinder Chemma, a highly motivated individual who first came to JLL whilst studying for a Masters Degree in Planning and Development, was supposed to do just a four week internship and ended up joining JLL’s graduate scheme.

Matthew Smith, lead director of the Nottingham office said: “Rav really impressed us from the start. He’s very switched on, understands the East Midlands market and is clearly an individual keen to make his mark in the industry.  Anyone on Twitter will see he’s already embraced JLL’s proactive approach to social media, but what really struck a chord with us, was his commitment to completing a master’s degree yet still giving 100 per cent to his work at JLL.”

Rav now works within the agency and development team and is responsible for securing and managing a range of disposal, acquisition and consultancy instructions across the East Midlands, predominantly within the office and industrial sectors but also encompassing residential land.

Christopher Johnson is another graduate who has joined the Building Consultancy team. He graduated from Sheffield Hallam University and worked in the residential sector for several years as a project officer delivering improvement works before applying to join JLL’s graduate scheme.

Christopher said: “JLL offers great employee training to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor and as one of the largest commercial real estate firms it has a very strong reputation. Whilst work in the Building Consultancy team ranges in size and is predominately local, the scope to work with large corporates attracted by JLL’s global presence is very appealing.”

Stephanie Latham too has joined JLL’s Professional Advisory team as a newly qualified surveyor. She previously trained at Savills and will be undertaking a broad spectrum of work across the commercial, industrial and residential markets, valuing for an extensive range of lending institutions, funds and private clients of the firm.

David Findlay, head of JLL”s Valuation Advisory team in Nottingham said: “Last year was a record income year for our team, even greater than that of the 2007 peak. Stephanie will add support to a growing area of valuation work at JLL – loan security – which is becoming an increasingly specialist area of the profession with more and more lending institutions utilising their own bespoke reporting procedures, requiring specific third party report input and greater depths of due diligence to protect themselves against the potentially highly litigious nature of valuation work and subsequent rising costs of Professional Indemnity Insurance.”
