Friargate contractor confirmed

Coventry City Council’s new 13 storey office building at Friargate, on target to be completed in Summer 2017.

Marking the latest milestone in Coventry’s transformational 37 acre Friargate project, the identity of the contractor selected for the enabling and first phase infrastructure work on the site has been announced.

Following a formal tender process, Friargate Coventry Llp has selected Bowmer and Kirkland as the principal contractor for the initial construction stage of the project. A programme of enabling works is now underway.

Steve Reynolds of Friargate, said: “The OJEU tender process produced several strong submissions from the contractor market; we are grateful for the competitive interest and delighted to have selected Bowmer & Kirkland, a family-owned contractor business that we welcome to the team.  We look forward to a successful working relationship as we deliver phase one of this transformational development and plan for delivery of the next phase.”

Speaking on behalf of Bowmer & Kirkland, Regional Director, Stephen Chambers said: “Friargate is a crucial project for the city and Bowmer & Kirkland is very proud to have been selected to be part of it. We are looking forward to starting on the site and working alongside such an experienced and successful team.”

Leader of Coventry City Council, Councillor Ann Lucas OBE said: “This is the latest step in the transformation of Friargate and the fact that we will shortly witness the start of construction is part of a very positive story for Coventry.

“Together with recently announced investments and other developments in the city, Friargate is changing perceptions and will attract new businesses and visitors to Coventry.”
