Six months on: Newport based steel firm is awarded contracts worth £8m

AIC Steel, the UK based arm of international structural steel firm AIC Steel Group has been awarded contracts worth £8m since opening its manufacturing site in Newport six months ago.

The company has won 20 significant projects to design, fabricate and erect structural steel for the UK construction industry over a range of market sectors.

Contract wins for the firm include the re-development of Bristol City Football Stadium and the development of 57 luxury apartments in the heart of Westminster.

The 28,000 sq. metre plant, which provides an annual output capacity of approximately 25,000 tons of structural steelwork, was launched as the Group’s manufacturing hub following a £10m investment.

AIC Steel Group has a track record of delivering work to a global network of customers and established a UK presence after recognising opportunities for growth in the UK market. As a result of recent wins, the Newport base is on course to turnover £20m by 2015.

Since the launch, staff numbers have increased from 20 to 80, and there are plans to further boost the workforce to 120 by December 2014, as the company aims for continued growth.

The firm, which also has a London based design office, plans to establish a presence on major projects across the UK to build a reputation as a leading steel fabricator recognised for technical excellence.
