Wakemans on site with £11 million distribution centre

National property and construction consultancy Wakemans is on course to deliver an £11million regional distribution centre at Chepstow to leading UK foodservice provider, Bidvest 3663.  Wakemans are acting as employer’s agent, cost consultant and CDM coordinator on the 188,000 sq. ft. refurbishment project, which will be handed over to the client next month.

The project has involved the complete replacement of the building envelope and overhaul of a former unit to provide a new state of the art facility which includes a freezer, chill store, ambient warehouse and office accommodation.

This is the thirteenth project that Wakemans have completed for Bidvest 3663 since 2003.

Wakemans are also on the same industrial park with Reid Lifting, specialists in lightweight, portable lifting solutions, overseeing a new £5 million manufacturing facility and headquarters for the specialists in lightweight, portable lifting solutions.

“It is unusual to have two completely separate projects for two different clients in the same location,” says Wakemans associate director Steve Gascoyne. “It is a reflection of the recovery in the market that businesses are confident to invest in new and larger premises.”

Bidvest 3663 is a leading foodservice provider in the UK, supplying quality ingredients, own brand and branded food products, wine, beers and spirits, non-food essentials and catering equipment to the catering industry.

Dave Hodgson, Bidvest 3663 midlands managing director says: “Bidvest 3663’s investment in new depots and the expansion of its existing facilities will enable the company to maximise its logistics resources, improve service to its customers and to sustain business growth.”

Robin Gibson, the general manager at the new site, adds: “The local Bidvest 3663 team is very excited at the prospect of operating from such a great new facility. With over 160 experienced staff in the team, we will use the new site to expand our service offering to customers throughout Wales and the West of England.”
