DTZ acts for MMU as it sells its first campus

Advised by DTZ, Manchester Metropolitan University has sold its Elizabeth Gaskell campus to Nuffield Health.

Elizabeth Gaskell, on Hathersage Road, Manchester, comprises 150,144 sq ft of former educational buildings sitting within a 5.4 acre site. The rear of the site is heavily landscaped and lies within in the Victoria Park Conversation Area.  The campus has previously been used for the University’s Faculty of Health, Psychology and Social Care and will be relocating to the new Birley fields campus in September 2014.

Nuffield Health has acquired the freehold with a view to submitting a planning application to develop the front part of the site with a new hospital.

Elizabeth Gaskell is the first of the five campuses to be sold following its development programme on Birley Fields and the new Business School. The disposal of all of the other campuses, Aytoun St, The Toast Rack, Didsbury and Alsager, are now with the solicitor’s.

DTZ acted for MMU whilst Colliers International represented Nuffield Health. Bruntwood will be acting as Development Manager for the new hospital.
