DBL Logistics join apprenticeship scheme to boost skills in sector

Sheffield-based DBL Logistics, part of the United Pallet Network (UPN), has joined an apprenticeship scheme to help young people begin a career in logistics.

The apprenticeships with DBL Logistics will offer young people the opportunity to work in a full-time, paid position, whilst receiving tailor-made NVQ training through the Employment and Skills Group (ESG).

Once their training has been completed, they will be able to move on to a permanent position with the company, which has a warehouse and distribution facility on Tinsley Park Road.

David Clarkson, managing director of DBL Logistics, said: “We are proud to sign up to this apprenticeship scheme, as we are committed to encouraging young people to train and work in the logistics sector. We understand the importance of helping school leavers to build their skills and work experience.

“DBL offers a supportive framework for all our staff. As a family-run business, we are a close-knit team who work together to ensure the success of the business. By taking on apprentices, our business can continue to grow, and we can offer young people the chance to develop within our supportive team.”

The apprenticeship scheme is in partnership with Sheffield based ESG, a national training provider that has been supporting young people for more than 20 years.

Open to people aged 16-24 year-olds, DBL Logistics is set to appoint its first apprentice shortly with the individual set to work within the company’s traffic office department, co-ordinating consignments to and from clients across the city region.

Victoria Douglas, an apprenticeship coordinator with ESG, said: “Apprenticeships with businesses like DBL Logistics helps young people get into work, they stimulate the economy, and help companies to grow and expand.

“It is a busy time at the moment because a lot of people have just left school and are looking for employment.  These days, an apprenticeship or work experience is more important than qualifications alone, so a placement with DBL Logistics will allow young people to build their personal skills, become fully independent, and develop their talent within the company.”
