Swansea law firm adds to its board as part of expansion plans

A Swansea law firm has promoted one of its associates to the board of directors, as part of its ambitious growth plans.

Douglas-Jones Mercer (DJM) Solicitors, one of the best-performing commercial law firms in Wales, has appointed Sheraz Akram as a director and head of its Corporate and Commercial team, which has grown by 40% in the last 12 months.

Mr Akram, previously worked at a major Cardiff law firm before moving to DJM in 2012. During his two-year tenure at DJM he has grown the commercial department by combining his legal expertise with his practical business knowledge, to secure a raft of new corporate clients across the UK.

As a board member, Mr Akram will now be responsible for overseeing the continued growth of the Corporate and Commercial department – which is targeting a further 30% growth in the next financial year.

The firm, which employs 55 people at its headquarters in Swansea Vale has seen a significant increase in demand for its services and as a result now has meeting facilities at office premises in Porthcawl and Cardiff.

DJM represents a wide range of corporate and public sector clients across South Wales, the United Kingdom and as far afield as New Zealand, United States, Hong Kong and Japan.

Sheraz Akram said:

“I’m delighted to join the board of such a well regarded and successful law firm and I hope to play a key role in the growth and expansion of the firm in the coming years.

“I am seeking to grow our market share further in Wales and the rest of the UK, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Michael Snowdon, Director at DJM Solicitors, said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Sheraz onto the board. His talent and experience in the legal industry, alongside his extensive business knowledge and expertise, will continue to support our growth.

“The firm has grown in the past 12 months and we expect Sheraz to play a significant part in our future growth plans.”
