DTZ secures second land sale for University of Leeds

Acting on behalf of The University of Leeds, DTZ has completed the sale of the second phase of the former Bodington Hall student halls of residence in Adel, north Leeds. The purchasers are David Wilson Homes who completed the acquisition of Phase 1 earlier this year. David Wilson Homes are proposing to redevelop the site as an extension of their Bodington Manor Development, comprising a mixture of four and five bedroom detached homes.

Outline planning for Phase 2 was initially secured by ID Planning for a high quality residential development based on an indicative scheme of 29 dwellings. David Wilson Homes has recently submitted a reserved matters planning application and the site, which was vacated in December 2012, is available for immediate development.

DTZ Leeds Director, Phil Roebuck who led the sale commented: “This is a prime development site which will form a natural extension to Bodington Manor. It was no surprise that this site generated huge interest and an excellent price. David Wilson Homes’ acquisition of a second phase is further evidence of the improving market particularly in traditionally popular locations.”

Steve Gilley, Head of Estates at the University confirmed he was delighted with the outcome adding: “Following the success of the Phase 1 sale we are pleased to have concluded a further sale to David Wilson Homes. The sale proceeds will be reinvested in developing and enhancing our academic estate and investing in the student experience at our city centre campus.”

Managing Director of Barratt David Wilson Homes, Ian Ruthven commented: “The acquisition of the second phase demonstrates our commitment to the delivery of high quality housing in the most sought after locations. We will be shortly launching Phase 1 of Bodington Manor and the high level of initial enquiries received demonstrate why we were keen to acquire a second phase.”

Abdus Patel, Squire Sanders acted for the University of Leeds. David Wilson Homes was represented by Rachel Cowper of Walker Morris.
