Wakemans takes new Sainsbury’s store to next stage

National property and construction consultancy Wakemans is acting as project manager for a new £3.5m Sainsbury’s supermarket that commences construction this month (August) at Shenley Church End in Milton Keynes.

Wakemans is also providing quantity surveying, employer agent, CDM management and BREEAM consultancy services on the project for property development company Frontier Estates.

The 37,000 ft² scheme has over 230 car parking spaces and recently received planning permission following extensive consultation with the local community. The building will be rated BREEAM Excellent and includes many new green technologies such as a biomass boiler, rainwater harvesting, LED lighting and advanced rooflight technology.
Steve Gascoyne, associate director at Wakemans says, “We are delighted that this project has received planning permission, it brings considerable investment to the area and will create over 100 new jobs.”

The demolition of a redundant fire damaged leisure centre was completed on the site earlier this year and the new building shell will be completed and ready for the final fit out by Sainsbury’s in April 2014. The store is expected to be open for trading by the summer of 2014.
