Mazars’ East Midlands move masterminded in Birmingham

The Birmingham-based national head of acquisitions believes that the recruitment of six RSM Tenon partners to join Mazars in the Midlands is the catalyst for significant growth.

David Chapman, Mazars central region managing partner, was appointed to the national role in the autumn of 2013.

“Mazars has a powerful offer to make to ambitious accountants – particularly those with well defined specialisms that are market-focused,” he said.

“We welcome approaches from those who feel they have something to offer a major international firm such as Mazars, a business with clearly defined growth plans and hence opportunities.”

Last week Mazars confirmed market speculation that it is growing its East Midlands operation considerably with the recruitment of six partners from RSM Tenon.

The RSM Tenon partners, who have given notice, are expected to start work in Mazars’ Nottingham office in the autumn. Mazars will also open a new office in Leicester to service clients.

They include Alistair Wesson, the former managing partner of RSM Tenon in Nottingham, Leicester office managing partner Chris Darlington, Julian Clough, Steve English, David Hoose and Bob Johnson. Mazars is also in ongoing contract discussions with a number of other individuals.

Together they offer a full range of audit, tax, advisory and corporation transaction services.

Mazars’ East Midlands operation covers Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.

Mazars central region managing partner David Chapman said: “This gives us a significant presence in the East Midlands.

“With our Nottingham office and and a Leicester office due to open in the autumn, we are well placed to service clients in the East Midlands and with this latest announcement we have significantly strengthened our capability in the region.

“Mazars is always on the lookout for talented individuals and we welcome the new arrivals into our central region team.”

Mazars’ central region will include the Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes and Gloucester offices.

Mr Chapman added: “The East Midlands is the eighth largest region in the UK and the fifth most prosperous. It produces ten per cent of the UK’s income outside of London and the south east.

“We are therefore keen to grow our presence in the region and the arrival of the new team has undoubtedly given us a significant boost.

“Both nationally and internationally, Mazars is committed to offering our clients a high-quality service. This move is a major step along the road in providing real choice for businesses in the East Midlands market place.”

Mazars continues to be acquisitive. In late 2011, Mazars acquired the personal insolvency practice of PWC which is now headquartered in the Gloucester office and employs 50 staff and partners.

In the UK Mazars has 107 partners, 1,250 employees and 18 offices.

As an international operation, Mazars operates in 71 countries, drawing on the expertise of 13,500 professionals to assist companies – major international groups, SMEs, private investors – and public bodies, at every stage in their development. Mazars also has correspondents and representative offices that give the capacity to serve clients to the same high quality standards in a further 14 countries.

UK senior partner Phil Verity said: “We’re delighted to welcome such a strong set of talented individuals into the firm to help expand our business in the East Midlands.

“Mazars in the UK has experienced strong growth in recent years, despite the difficult economic background. We have ambitious plans to build further on this success and bringing in this team is very much in line with our growth strategy for the next four years.”
