Property sector slump claims J & H Construction

Insolvency experts at international accountancy firm Mazars’s Birmingham office have been appointed as administrators at J & H Construction Ltd, based in Hinkley, Leicestershire.

Partner Simon Chandler and director Scott Bevan were appointed on April 5 following the firm’s decision to cease trading in early March.

J & H Construction Ltd was established in 2001 by managing director Mark Campion and specialised in offering a complete groundworks package for developers, with services including excavation, drainage, earthworks, civil engineering and site engineering.

The business had worked on projects including the Marks & Spencer Distribution Centre in Bradford, Thame Football Club in Oxfordshire and new commercial units in Peterborough.

Mazars partner Simon Chandler said: “We are in the early stages of assessing the trading position but it appears the business owes just under £1 million to creditors.

“The business has been another victim of the downturn in the construction sector and was unable to continue trading.”

He said that 35-50 full and part time staff had already been made redundant prior to Mazars appointment.
