Laurence Moorse from Fareham-based Quindell Portfolio plc has been honoured in this newly contested event, which saw FD’s and CFO’s nominated by CEO’s, banks, lawyers, private equity houses and media influencers across the country.
The Hot 20 was decided by a judging panel of BDO partners, Sara White of Accountancy magazine and Christian Young of Smedvig Capital. Given the region’s strong technology sector BDO said it was ‘not surprised that a local FD was among the most impressive in the UK’.
Laurence Moorse is Group FD of Quindell, a software and technology enabled outsourcing company covering insurance and telecoms. The shares of the business have been one of the UK Market’s star performers since its flotation last year. He has been instrumental to Quindell’s rapid growth and the financial force leading its major acquisition and growth strategy. He was praised by the judging panel for his ability to think beyond the traditional paths for growth and with a string of complex and successful transactions to his name his capabilities as an FD were some of the best BDO has seen.
Partner, Paul Anthony, head of Technology, Media and Telecoms in accountancy and business advisory firm BDO’s Southampton office said: “When we started the search to find the TMT sector’s most impressive and exciting FD’s we did not expect to unearth the sheer diversity of individuals.
“The very best FD’s have a distinct role in shaping a company’s strategy. They are a far cry from being ‘yes men’ to CEO’s or investors. Their financial astuteness and ability to know when to take a risk, combined with their overriding passion for their sector and desire for their companies to succeed, makes them some of the most impressive business leaders around.”
