Commercial property specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt are celebrating 11 years as Somerset’s “Most Active Agent” according to respected trade publication Estates Gazette.

Adding to the success commercial surveyor Joseph Hughes has been named “Dealmaker of the Year” for the third year in row, cementing the firm’s dominance in the sector.

Estates Gazette, the well regarded industry publication, monitors deals across the sector and for the 11th year in a row Greenslade Taylor Hunt has come out as securing the most sales and lettings in Somerset.

Joseph Hughes, Commercial Surveyor, said: “The last two years have been challenging. First, 2019 was marred by Brexit and now, 2020 has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this, 2020 started well. The industrial sector continues to gain traction, with prices increasing year on year. However, since lockdown and its subsequent easing, demand for office space has diminished even further than before.

“Smaller retail premises that are more attractive to independent traders are tending to fare well, although the retail and leisure sectors, particularly premises usually more attractive to national occupiers, are suffering from low demand. Next year will be challenging, but I am confident the commercial sector will overcome these obstacles as business must go on.”

Deals done by the department in the past year include the sale of two large office premises; Silver Street House and 5 & 6 The Crescent in Taunton, as well as the old Boots Opticians building on North Street in Taunton and an industrial building in East Road, Bridport.

Recent lettings include 65 Station Road in Taunton, two industrial units in Goldcroft, Yeovil, 8 St Mary Street, Weymouth and the Old Barclays building in Axminster.

The future is also looking promising with the extension and further development of Street Business Park, to include a residential care home facility, businesses units and offices. In addition, GTH being instructed on 42 new business units at Glenmore Business Park, Yeovil, points to the confidence that developers have in the local business market.

The commercial division, which has offices in Taunton, Yeovil and Wells, works across Somerset, Devon and Dorset and undertakes a full range of commercial services. Earlier this year, GTH acquired RMW Knight Chartered Surveyors, further expanding their coverage across the South West.
